AKA: Cyber Planet 1999: Hyper Rune

It is about an eight-grade girl named Rune Ayanokouji, who is destined to save the world from peril caused by notorious cyber-alien beings. She lives with her mad scientist grandfather, who is very smart, but has a habit of dressing her up in weird cosplay outfits. Rune was born with a sun-like crest on her wrist (known as the Crest of the Sun), and was told by her grandfather that she was the reincarnated Space Queen. Rune refuses to believe almost anything her grandfather says and tries to live a normal life, despite the fact that she works part-time as a cybernetic superhuman to ward off alien beings that have invaded the earth. Rune’s childhood friends, Masaya and Masato Ibayashi, are also cybernetic warriors who bear the Crest of the Sun, but she doesn’t know this until later.

Ouran High School Host Club (Ouran Koukou Hosuto Kurabu)

Haruhi Fujioka (a girl) is a scholarship student at the exclusive Ouran High School, a place mainly populated by the rich and elite. To her misfortune, when searching for a place to study, she breaks an $8,000,000 vase belonging to the Host Club of the school. This is a club of 6 attractive and wealthy male students that cater to various female students. Because of her appearance (her father’s clothing, short haircut, and glasses obscuring her beautiful eyes) she is mistaken for a boy. And, in order to pay off her debt, she becomes the host club’s dog (essentially their servant). Soon they find that she actually has the potential to look quite attractive and is enlisted as a host to pay her debt. How will this end up? Read to find out!

Yuzuru is a 15 year old girl attending her first year of high school at Houjou Academy. It’s during the summer, at her job, when she first meets a seductive and reckless, rich boy named Renge Kai.

When Yuzuru goes back to school, she finds out she’s Kai’s ‘honey’. An assistant in a way but a servant as well. The good part about being Kai’s honey is that her tuition will be paid by the school. Yuzuru’s family is facing some financial problems so this is a very good idea, but, she does not want to accept her role as ‘honey’. The consequence of quitting is expulsion. Will Yuzuru be able to attend school normally ever again?

Trepanation is the procedure of drilling a hole in the skull. It is said to increase the blood circulation and improve pressure inside the skull. It is also said to bring out a person’s sixth sense, the ability to use ESP, see ghosts, move objects with one’s mind. This is speculative fiction based on the concept of trepanation.

A social drop-out, living in his car, ‘playing’ at being homeless, is offered money to submit to a hole being drilled in his skull. A medical student plans to study the conferral of paranormal abilities by this trepanning process; but after the operation the subject becomes lost in disturbing visions, and fears for his sanity. A thoughtful manga, without the extreme violence of the writer’s other main work, Ichi the Killer.
