Chess is a two-player board game played on a chessboard, a square-checkered board with 64 squares arranged in an eight-by-eight grid. It is one of the world’s most popular games, played by millions of people worldwide at home, in clubs, online, by correspondence, and in tournaments.

Each player begins the game with sixteen pieces: one king, one queen, two rooks, two knights, two bishops, and eight pawns, each of these types of pieces moving differently. Pieces are used to attack and capture the opponent’s pieces. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king by placing it under threat of capture (“check”) which cannot be avoided. In addition to checkmate, the game can be won by the voluntary resignation of one’s opponent, which may occur when too much material is lost, or if checkmate appears unavoidable.

FamilyChess-01cA game may result in a draw in several ways, and neither player wins. The course of the game is divided in three phases. The beginning of the game is called the opening (with the development of pieces). The opening yields to the phase called the middle game. The last phase is the endgame, generally characterized by the disappearance of queens.

Family Chess is a digital recreation of the board game chess. The game features up to 2 players to play one against the other. The game features only one view and one computer opponent.

Shogi, also known as Japanese chess, is a two-player board game in the same family as Western chess, chaturanga, and Chinese Xiangqi, and is the most popular of a family of chess variants native to Japan. Shogi means general’s.

0KaranoShogi-01dThe earliest predecessor of the game, chaturanga, originated in India in the 6th century, and spread from China to Japan, where it spawned a number of variants. Shogi in its present form was played as early as the 16th century, while a direct ancestor without the “drop rule” was recorded from 1210 in a historical document Nichureki, which is an edited copy of Shochureki and Kaichureki from the late Heian period (ca 1120).

According to ChessVariants.com, “Perhaps the enduring popularity of Shogi can be attributed to its ‘drop rule’; it was the first chess variant wherein captured pieces could be returned to the board to be used as one’s own. David Pritchard credits the drop rule to the practice of 16th century mercenaries who switched loyalties when captured – no doubt as an alternative to execution.”

0 Kara no Shogi – Shogi Youchien Ayumi-Gumi is a shogi game that features 5 different kind of boards, a complete tutorial and a dictionary in Japanese language, different vs modes (also a 2 players vs mode), a sort of a battle mode in which the player advance defeating opponents and the game has 10 different opponents.
